FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL HOURS?

Our current school hours are 8:30am – 3:30pm.

IS CCCS AN INTER-DENOMINATIONAL SCHOOL?

CCCS is an inter-denominational school; we are not affiliated with just one church or denomination. Please see our Statement of Faith.

DOES CCCS OFFER TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM SCHOOL?

Yes, CCCS has a van that runs from Calumet to the school for a small fee per student.  Please contact the office if you're interested in having your student ride. We also encourage parents to work together to share rides (some currently do). We can assist helping you find parents coming from the same area as you.

DOES CCCS OFFER A LUNCH PROGRAM?

CCCS does not currently offer a lunch program; students must bring their own lunch. Once a month the service club has a Pizza fundraiser.

DOES CCCS REQUIRE UNIFORMS?

CCCS does not require a specific uniform. We do have a dress code for modesty and neatness, and we require that students dress in business casual at a minimum on Wednesdays for Chapel. We are working on a digital handbook so that parents and students can see on-line this type of information, as there are more details to our dress code than will fit here.

HOW MUCH IS TUITION?

At CCCS, we strive to keep tuition affordable. (Click here for current tuition rates)Tuition is based on our operational costs and is offset by some private and church donations. Our tuition is lower than comparable Christian schools: Crossroads in Marquette (enrollment fee, book fee and $3800 tuition K-10), Harbor Light in Petoskey (around $5000/year base tuition). We have had very few, and, even then, very small tuition increases in recent history.

DO YOU OFFER ANY KIND OF TUITION ASSISTANCE?

Tuition assistance is offered to families who qualify based on financial need. Discounts are also offered for families with multiple children attending at the same time as well as discounts for families involved in full time Christian ministry and discounts when parents work as teachers at CCCS.

ARE YOUR TEACHERS EDUCATED AND EXPERIENCED?

Our teachers have a range of education and experience. Several have a combination of formal higher education and home schooling experience. Some have college instruction experience. Please see our faculty page for specific information on our teachers. Overall, our teachers are delivering a quality education to each student. All faculty and staff are committed Christians desiring to partner with parents in the formation and development of students.

WHAT IS CCCS’S STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO?

Our current student to teacher ratio is averaging 6:1. Currently, our lower grades are paired in classrooms: PreK & K, 1st & 2nd grade, 3rd & 4th grade, and 5th & 6th grade. Student to teacher ratio varies depending on yearly enrollment.

WHICH CURRICULUM ARE YOU USING?

We use a combination of Bob Jones University Press, Abeka, Positive Action, and other mainstream curriculum for math, etc. Curriculum is reviewed every year. We strive to maintain high standards with our curriculum choices.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT?

Students are given a report card each marking period (See CCCS Calendar) in which they are assessed in academics (all grades) and conduct (elementary only). However, our emphasis is not “teaching to the test” to artificially inflate student performance. Of what value is a diploma our graduates cannot read? Our low student to teacher ratio allows teachers to keep close tabs on each student, and inform parents of their student’s current level of achievement. Our teachers are generally available for questions or a short meeting after school by prior arrangement.  We also have grades available online for parents & students to stay informed.

DO YOUR ALUMNI GO ON TO ACHIEVE COLLEGE DEGREES?

Many of our alumni choose to go on to higher education. We have graduated many students with 3.5 and above GPAs. Graduates that have put forth such effort have studied at U of M, MTU, Finlandia, NMU, etc. Several have gone on to receive graduate degrees as well. Our graduates are not limited in their post-secondary educations by receiving a diploma from CCCS.  Rather it is a matter of how much the students put into their educational pursuits that determines their limitations.

DO YOU OFFER EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES?

Yes, we offer a range of extracurricular activities. We offer Soccer in the fall and in the winter Girls and Boys Basketball.

DO YOU OFFER AN EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM?

At this time, we do not have an extended day program in place. Dropping off earlier than 8:00am is a possibility if pre-arranged. An after-school program may exist in the future, if demand grows and volunteers exist to support it. Again, cooperation between parents is encouraged.
