Mrs.Fluegge is the second oldest child in a family of 11 children. As the daughter of a pastor and evangelist, Mrs. Fluegge has spent a better part of her life working with children. She has taught children’s Sunday School classes, facilitated and directed multiple
VBS’, taught kindergarten in her parent’s homeschool program, and last but not least, she also homeschooled her oldest daughter in Kindergarten. Mrs. Fluegge is thrilled to have this opportunity to be used of the LORD at Copper Country Christian School.
Grades 1 & 2
Miss Peterson graduated from the Copper Country Christian School in 2011. She attended Northland International University for one year studying office administration. The following summer while working at summer camp, where she has served for seven years, she felt the Lord leading her to pursue a degree in early childhood education. In the fall of 2012, she began classes through Grand Canyon University's online program. Miss Peterson has also taught elementary students at a Christian school in Missouri. Recently, Miss Peterson has felt the Lord leading her back to Michigan to continue pursuing her degree and teaching at the CCCS.
Grades 3 & 4
Mrs. O’Connor finally joined our staff after her youngest came of school age. A mother of 13, she home schooled before starting her children at CCCS in 2006. Mrs. O’Connor has taught many classes at CCCS and is currently our 3rd and 4th grade teacher.
Mrs. O’Connor has also taught Sunday school and VBS at Evangel Baptist, as well as teaching water safety classes at Suomi College (now Finlandia University). She conducted home school seminars for teaching multi-age groups and coordinated homeschool conferences in the UP prior to joining our staff. She is creative & puts countless hours into providing a place where kids can learn to be creative in a nurturing atmosphere.
Grades 5 & 6, Jr High, Computers
Mrs. Downs grew up in Indiana, graduating in 2004 with High Honors from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Psychology (minor in English). She and her husband, Chris, have two sons, Clayton (8th grade) and Mitch (5th grade). Mrs. Downs loves dogs, reading, writing, and running. She has always enjoyed volunteering in her sons' schools. At Imlay City Christian School, she helped in 1st/2nd grade math classes as well as lunch assistant duties and fund-raising. She also taught 1st/2nd grade Sunday School for two years prior to relocating to the snowy North. We love seeing how God uses her at Copper Country Christian School.
Jr High & High School
Mrs. Blasiola graduated with honors from Eastern Michigan University with a Secondary Education Degree, double majoring in Language, Literature, & Writing, and Mathematics. She is passionate about pursing relationship with God through reading His word and through praise and worship—she sang on the worship team for many years as part of her campus ministry and her church. She moved to the Upper Peninsula in 2016, as her husband is a graduate of Michigan Tech, unsure of the plans God had in store for her. As the summer progressed, she felt the pull of the Holy Spirit calling her to work at CCCS and she is very excited to be teaching middle and high school English and the Girls Bible class!
"FRAU" BECKY AUSTIN
Pre K-12 German, Math, Physical Science
Frau Austin’s language teaching style is infectious—combining dialog, songs, and games, while addressing the everyday customs and culture of Germany. The students are inspired by her teaching and must always address her in German, unless they are sitting on her Ami-teppich (“American rug”). She started teaching German at CCCS in the elementary/Jr. High in 2010, adding the high school in 2011.
Frau Austin holds a B.A. in German and Education from Denison University. She also was privileged to take part in a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship, spending the 1999-2000 school year teaching English in Schwerin, Germany. There she split her time between a Montessori school (grades 1-4) and a college-prep secondary school (working in grades 5, 8, 10 and 12.) She’s spent a total of over 2 years living in Germany and has a great passion for the language and culture.
Grades 7-12 Math
Mr. Anderson is the veteran teacher at CCCS. He has taught various math classes at CCCS for over 20 years. He tries to strengthen student interest in Math with his own enthusiasm for the subject. Mr. Anderson holds a B.S. in Math Education from Northern Michigan University, a Masters in Religious Education from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary (ACSI Certified), and an MA in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State University. Brandon Charbonneau is a Senior Chemical Engineering Student at MTU and will be graduating May 2019. Brandon plans to work for His House Christian Fellowship when he graduates. In his free time, Brandon likes to play board games or spend time with his friends at MTU along with nerding out over Pokémon. Brandon is most excited about sharing the Gospel with those that don't believe and spending time with the people that don't know God's Love.
